Melisa and Andrew’s Luxury Coastal Wedding at Jonah’s Whale Beach
June 20, 2019

After Melisa celebrated her birthday with a friend at Jonah’s clifftop dining room, she knew it would one day be the destination for the wedding of her dreams. Melisa was not wrong. Although located just a stone’s throw from Sydney, Whale Beach is the perfect wedding destination for those that want to feel a million miles away, surrounded by nature and the Pacific Ocean.

“The spectacular view, prestigious service, and incredible food were just some of the reasons why I loved it.”

Just two months later, Melisa met the man that would one day be waiting for her at the end of aisle. Once Andrew proposed, Melisa brought him to dine at Jonah’s to experience the venue first hand. There was no need to explore any further-

“Andrew instantly loved it as it was everything that both of us are about – Good food, wine, and the ocean! We didn’t even look at other wedding venues – we knew it would be simply perfect and it matched our own style,” said Melisa.

The stunning bride prepared with her bridesmaids in our luxury Peninsula bridal suite in the boutique hotel. The girls got the celebrations started early with bubbles, toasting to the special occasion in the room before the ceremony. The suite offers ample space for the bridal party to get dressed and do hair and makeup together with their own private balcony to enjoy panoramic ocean views.

Melisa and Andrew’s wedding day was a luxurious Exclusive Event, with the ceremony taking place in our clifftop garden surrounded by family and friends. The sit-down dinner reception was held in the elegant dining room, styled by Elements for Hire and Ellebore florist featuring white and blush flowers and lush greenery in memory of Melisa’s granmother’s rose garden for a sentimental touch. Custom marble coasters with each guest’s name on them were used as place holders and Bonbonnieres for guests to take home.

The wardrobe choices for the day were flawless with Melisa in a backless Pronovias lace gown with a long train and Andrew in a white suit jacket and black tuxedo.

The couple and their guests enjoyed canapes on the terrace taking in the ocean views between the ceremony and reception times. Canapes included freshly shucked Sydney Rock oysters, crumbed king prawns, Gorgonzola and caramelised onion zucchini flowers, scallops, and arancini. The reception was an elegant 2 course dining experience serving two of our pasta dishes to start- casarecce with cherry tomatoes, spanner crab, and preserved lemon, or gnocchi with goats cheese, roast beetroot and pinenuts. For main course, guests were served either barramundi with capsicum ragu and Sicilian capers, or Black Angus beef fillet with pencil leeks, celeriac and pumpkin seeds.

The wedding cake for dessert was created by our recommended supplier By Gigi . A gorgeous two-layer cake with cascading garden roses, coconut, lime, and dulce de leche for the bottom layer and chocolate for the top layer.

The happy newly weds celebrated into the night with their loved ones- their favourite moment being the first dance! When the festivities finally came to a close, the couple and some of their guests retired to their luxury Ocean Retreat rooms in our boutique hotel for a seamless finish to the event. Our on site accommodation means that guests need not worry about arranging transportation and have the opportunity to enjoy an à la carte breakfast the following morning.

We look forward to welcoming Melisa and Andrew back to Jonah’s to celebrate many anniversaries to come.
