Taste of Sydney
For four days from the 13th – 16th March 2014, The World’s Greatest Restaurant Festival returns to the stunning surrounds of Centennial Park. Jonah’s is excited to part of this foodie festival and will be participating as a destination restaurant on Saturday 15th March. Executive Chef Peter Ridland will be showcasing three exciting dishes plus a special Icon dish drawing inspiration from one of our most popular dishes at Jonah’s ‘fruits de mer’. NSW Food & Wine Festival
Celebrate the state’s finest produce, wine and wine regions.. We’re taking part in this exciting event by participating in the Sticky & Sweet category. During February 24 – March 21 when dining at Jonah’s you can enjoy our Lemon Parfait, roasted apricot, oat crumble and apricot sorbet dessert which has been perfectly matched with a 2011 Centennial Vineyard ‘Finale’ Late Autumn Sauvignon Blanc from the Southern Highlands, NSW for $25.
Celebrating our 85th Birthday and Australia Day
On Monday 27th January we celebrated Australia Day and our 85th Birthday in true Australian style. Although we still have 15 years to go to get a telegram from the Queen, we were delighted to be able to host the governor Marie Bashir and Sir Nicholas Shehadie. Having welcomed movie stars, performers, politicians, media proprietors, royalty and sports champions since the 1920’s, it is always wonderful to invite and welcome back so many Australian legends – and this year’s celebration was no exception. Other guests including Ky Hurst, Peter Phelps, Mike Munro, Jono Coleman, Matt Dunn, Chris & Rose Fydler, John Coates, John Brown, Phil Kearns, Phil Waugh and David Kirk were treated to an afternoon of Australian themed food created by Executive Chef Peter Ridland.
Dishes served included QLD King Tiger Prawns, Freshly shucked Sydney Rock Oysters, Lobster with Thermidor Sauce, Lamb cutlets, Mini kangaroo chorizo hot dogs, mini Berkshire pork sausage rolls, Bundaberg rum & raisin ice cream, mini pavlovas and chocolate mousse with Tim Tam folded through, garnished with a chocolate crackle.
Guests sipped on a fine selection of wines including Taittinger Champagne, Cullen Chardonnay from Margaret River WA, The Schwarz “Nitschke Block’ Shiraz from the Barossa Valley SA, Home Hill Estate Pinot Noir from Huon Valley Tasmania and Lark Hill ‘Biodynamic’ Riesling Auslese from Canberra District NSW.
Entertainment during the afternoon included a joyful rendition of Advance Australia Fair sung by arising young star Ashleigh Rubenach, accompanied by 12 year old Jaden Deheragoda playing the violin. Jaden also treated guests to a gypsy folk performance of Hungarian Dance 2 by Brahms. Her Excellency Marie Bashir delivered a wonderful speech which included references to her own great appreciation of the beauty of the northern beaches and her long association with them. She also reminded the enthusiastic audience that on Australia Day we all particularly have to make sure that we do not leave anyone behind in life’s journey.
